Hadiza Galadanci

A Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bayero University Kano, Nigeria and Director of a World Bank supported Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy. She has published over 130 articles and has established a research network and delivered over 20 studies with World Health Organization, Mac Arthur Foundation, FIGO, MRC, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is an inspiring model for women, particularly women clinical academics, being the first female obstetrician and professor to be trained in the Kano Nigeria. She holds a bachelor’s in medicine and surgery from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, a Masters in Reproductive Health and Sexual Health Research from University College London UK and a Diploma from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene UK. A Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology United Kingdom and Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.

She has chaired and served in many international, regional and national committees including Chair Board of Trustees Engender Health Nigeria, Chair of the National Reproductive Health Working Group,  member PMTCT National Task Team, Member West African Steering Committee on Reduction of Maternal Mortality, member Board of Trustees endowment fund West African College of Surgeons, member Board of Trustees of Nigerian Medical Women’s Association and member Steering Committee AlignMNH and member National Research and Development Committee. She has trained and mentored over 2000 undergraduates, postgraduates, and residents. She has won multiple awards for her leading work in maternal health including FIGO Women Award 2018 and 2023 Heroine of Health Award. In 2024 she was named one of 100 most influential people in health by the TIMES magazine.
